In a world full of instant gratification & buy now, pay later options, no wonder we don't have the patience to wait for our hair to grow on it's own. And with extensions as an options, why would you!
With all of the different installation techniques & differences in quality of hair, it can be confusing choosing the right extension for you. So we are going to go through a few options (that we do at BORNPRETTY) & explain hair quality & type, so you can make the right choice for you.
Lets start with types of hair & quality, the first thing you need to make sure is that the hair is "remy" hair, this means that the hair has been collected in a way that keeps the hair cuticle still intact and allows each cuticle to run in the same direction, the reason you want this is because the hair won’t tangle or matte due to the fact that it’s protected for the cuticle. The cuticle of your hair is like the skin on your body, it keeps the moisture in.
There are also different types of hair (where they are sourced from) We prefer Russian hair as it is soft & finer in texture & the quality is of the highest standard, we also find that it blends better with most of our Australian clients hair types. You can get thicker stranded hair types such as Mongolian, Chinese, Indian. Keep in mind that hair types like this are usually highly treated (bleached) to be able to offer a range of colours especially in the lighter colours. This will also affect the longevity & texture of the extension.
There are so many new & improved options for installation emerging, it's hard to keep up with them. It is important to know which type is the right type for you, they are designed for different hair types & lifestyles. Here are the 3 different types of extension installation we offer.
Weft hair extensions have a number of benefits, mainly being that they are less damaging to the hair than other types of extensions, such as tape-in extensions. Weft hair extensions can be worn for longer periods of time, anywhere from 2-4 months, and are less likely to cause tangling or matting of the hair. They are also less likely to fall out than other techniques. They can add length or add fullness to your hair & can be used on short hair. They are also great way to add volume, colour, or both to your natural hair. The downer about these is that you are limited to how you style or put your hair up & can feel bulky.
Weft hair extensions are one of the most popular types of hair extensions available on the market today
Tape are usually the cheapest option because the install doesn't take as long, however just keep in mind the to have them taken out & put back in is a lengthy process, so it may cost you more in the long run. are great for people who like to put their hair up, they also lay flat & are great for people who have fine hair. They can last anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks. You can choose multiple shades to help blend in & colour match. This option is also perfect for anyone who just needs to fill a gap or needs a bit more hair in an isolated area. These extensions require a certain type of shampoo & conditioner & seem to cause the most damage on the hair & scalp.
Keratin Bond by far are the most versatile & cost effective as they stay in the hair for 4-6 months without the need for adjustments, meaning fewer visits to the salon. They are easy to style and wear in a ponytail. They also look extremely natural because you can choose multiple colours to help blend in your hair. It is one of the most comfortable than other extension methods & feels most natural in your hair. When applied and removed correctly, they don’t do damage because keratin is not harsh on your hair or scalp. These extensions require a certain type of shampoo & conditioner to ensure that the bonds aren't compromised.
