Why Self-Care Matters as a Women

Why Self-Care Matters as a Women

Self-care is essential for living a balanced and fulfilling life. By prioritizing your mental and physical well-being, you can better manage stress, boost your health, and enjoy a higher level of energy and confidence.

Why is self-care important?

  • Reduces stress: Activities like relaxation, pampering, or spending time on yourself help you reset and lower stress levels.
  • Improves mental health: Taking care of yourself builds emotional resilience and enhances your overall happiness.
  • Increases energy: Self-care fuels your motivation and helps you feel rejuvenated.
  • Boosts confidence: Doing things like getting your hair done can leave you feeling polished, refreshed, and ready to conquer your day. A fresh style isn’t just about looks—it’s a mood-lifter that can make you feel empowered.
  • Enhances productivity: With better self-care, you’re more focused, resilient, and able to tackle challenges effectively.
  • Alternative support for health: During health emergencies, self-care can act as an essential tool for maintaining your well-being.

How can you practice self-care (and why it works)?

  • Eat a balanced diet: The food you eat fuels your body and brain. A diet rich in whole foods, fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats helps stabilize your energy, improves focus, and supports overall health.

  • Stay hydrated: Drinking enough water keeps your body functioning optimally, helps with digestion, boosts energy, and improves skin health. Proper hydration also supports mental clarity and reduces fatigue.

  • Limit caffeinated and alcoholic beverages: While coffee or alcohol might feel like a quick fix, overconsumption can disrupt sleep, cause dehydration, and increase anxiety. Moderating these can lead to better overall balance and well-being.

  • Get plenty of sleep: Quality sleep is essential for mental clarity, mood regulation, and physical recovery. A well-rested body and mind are better equipped to handle stress and make thoughtful decisions.

  • Exercise regularly: Physical activity releases endorphins, which are natural mood boosters. Exercise improves physical health, reduces stress, and increases energy levels, leaving you feeling strong and capable.

  • Schedule time for relaxing activities: Activities like reading, meditation, or spa treatments help you unwind and reset. Relaxation reduces stress hormones, calms your mind, and gives your body a chance to recharge.

  • Build strong relationships: Surrounding yourself with supportive and positive people strengthens your sense of connection and belonging. Healthy relationships improve your mental health and provide a safety net during challenging times.

  • Try new hobbies: Engaging in creative or recreational activities adds excitement to your routine, fosters personal growth, and gives you a sense of accomplishment.

  • Practice gratitude: Focusing on the positives in your life can shift your perspective, reduce stress, and help you cultivate a more optimistic outlook.

  • Treat yourself: Whether it’s a fresh haircut, hair colour, or another beauty treatment, investing in your appearance can boost your self-esteem. When you feel good about how you look, it radiates in your confidence, influencing how you approach your day and interact with others.

Self-care is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. Incorporating these practices into your life can make a world of difference in how you feel, act, and thrive. So, take that time for yourself—you deserve it!

The Benefits of Keeping Your Scalp Healthy

The Benefits of Keeping Your Scalp Healthy

Your scalp is home to hair follicles, the tiny openings where each strand of hair grows. When the scalp is healthy, these follicles function optimally, promoting the growth of stronger, thicker hair. A clean, well-nourished scalp ensures that hair follicles are free from blockages like excess oil, dead skin cells, and product build-up, creating the perfect environment for hair to grow healthily and abundantly.

Hair & Scalp Tips to make it through Winter

Hair & Scalp Tips to make it through Winter

The Winter months can be tough on your hair & scalp. The air outside is colder & when you are inside you are normally in heating, so it is drier. We also tend to have the water hotter in the shower, which isn’t good for the hair & we still do all our normal styling with our hot tools.

Even though winter can be brutal on your hair, you can do a few things to ensure you still have amazing hair & no flaky scalp, here’s some tips to help you & your hair make it through this season.

  1. Avoid styling products with alcohol during the winter because alcohol is drying to the hair, lots of moisture & cream based thermal protector
  2. Make sure you don’t leave your hair wet & cold. When hair’s wet it’s more vulnerable and prone to break. Why’s that? The water droplets left in hair can enter the hair shaft & when the water gets too cold it swell the shaft
  3. If you have a little bit of dry scalp, try have your shower a little bit cooler when washing your hair & invest in a good shampoo to help with dry scalp but won’t strip your colour
  4. Try & gently towel dry your hair before using a blow-dryer, taking as much moisture out of your hair beforehand, and then try not to over dry your hair.
  5. It’s important to ensure you are getting extra vitamins in winter that help your hair & skin, such as Iron, vitamin D, vitamin C & omega-3
  6. Go a little bit darker for winter, as much as we love bright blonde, toning it down a little bit & giving your hair a break from lightening will help a lot.
  7. Do overnight oil treatments on your hair & scalp, This will work wonders on your scalp & your hair, leaving them both really moisturised.

Who has the patience!!

Who has the patience!!

In a world full of instant gratification & buy now, pay later options, no wonder we don't have the patience to wait for our hair to grow on it's own. And with extensions as an options, why would you!

With all of the different installation techniques & differences in quality of hair, it can be confusing choosing the right extension for you. So we are going to go through a few options (that we do at BORNPRETTY) & explain hair quality & type, so you can make the right choice for you.

Lets start with types of hair & quality, the first thing you need to make sure is that the hair is "remy" hair, this means that the hair has been collected in a way that keeps the hair cuticle still intact and allows each cuticle to run in the same direction, the reason you want this is because the hair won’t tangle or matte due to the fact that it’s protected for the cuticle. The cuticle of your hair is like the skin on your body, it keeps the moisture in.

There are also different types of hair (where they are sourced from) We prefer Russian hair as it is soft & finer in texture & the quality is of the highest standard, we also find that it blends better with most of our Australian clients hair types. You can get thicker stranded hair types such as Mongolian, Chinese, Indian. Keep in mind that hair types like this are usually highly treated (bleached) to be able to offer a range of colours especially in the lighter colours. This will also affect the longevity & texture of the extension.

There are so many new & improved options for installation emerging, it's hard to keep up with them. It is important to know which type is the right type for you, they are designed for different hair types & lifestyles. Here are the 3 different types of extension installation we offer.

Weft hair extensions have a number of benefits, mainly being that they are less damaging to the hair than other types of extensions, such as tape-in extensions. Weft hair extensions can be worn for longer periods of time, anywhere from 2-4 months, and are less likely to cause tangling or matting of the hair. They are also less likely to fall out than other techniques. They can add length or add fullness to your hair & can be used on short hair. They are also great way to add volume, colour, or both to your natural hair. The downer about these is that you are limited to how you style or put your hair up & can feel bulky.

Weft hair extensions are one of the most popular types of hair extensions available on the market today

Tape are usually the cheapest option because the install doesn't take as long, however just keep in mind the to have them taken out & put back in is a lengthy process, so it may cost you more in the long run. are great for people who like to put their hair up, they also lay flat & are great for people who have fine hair. They can last anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks. You can choose multiple shades to help blend in & colour match. This option is also perfect for anyone who just needs to fill a gap or needs a bit more hair in an isolated area. These extensions require a certain type of shampoo & conditioner & seem to cause the most damage on the hair & scalp.

Keratin Bond by far are the most versatile & cost effective as they stay in the hair for 4-6 months without the need for adjustments, meaning fewer visits to the salon. They are easy to style and wear in a ponytail. They also look extremely natural because you can choose multiple colours to help blend in your hair. It is one of the most comfortable than other extension methods & feels most natural in your hair. When applied and removed correctly, they don’t do damage because keratin is not harsh on your hair or scalp. These extensions require a certain type of shampoo & conditioner to ensure that the bonds aren't compromised.
